You have to make sure you are interacting with your customers, and that you humanize your company, in order to keep them interested, and so they will trust you. If the customer views your company as one that does not care, or does not take the time to speak to their followers, this is going to result in negative back lash, as opposed to the positive rewards you were trying to get from social media sites and the marketing potential.
You also have to create a site that they are going to want to visit. You have to give them incentives, otherwise, why would they even follow your company on the sites. Provide coupons and savings, offer them some kind of prize for shopping, or give them some type of promotion, that only online members are going to be able to get, when the contest is going on. If the follower does not get something in return, they are going to feel there is no real reason or any need for them to be a member or to follow you on the site.
You have to make sure you are interacting, giving them bonuses, and giving them information that can’t be found anywhere else. You have to keep the customer engaged, and make them want to stay on your social media fan page. If you do not, you are going to run in to a series of followers leaving, or no longer following your page, because they simply believe that the company does not care whether they are following them or not.
